Sounds like a vaccum line off, there should be a red vaccum line that has a rubber elbow that connects under the hood on the passenger side. You can not it see it but it connects under the cowling below the fresh air filter.

Probably a vaccum leak. The vents default to the defrost vents (Windshield) when there is no vaccum. The main vaccum connection is on the throttle body. The thin lines become brittle and break very easily. Good luck finding the leak.
