My 1999 accord lx ac dash lights cut off and then the ac does not blow cold wait a while and it starts working normal what could be wrong?

I have a 1999 Accord LX coupe and the EXACT same thing happens to me - and usually it happens in the most inconvenient times. I'm guessing maybe the actual AC dash unit needs to be replaced. But I'm beginning to wonder if this is a common problem.
