My 2002 Ford Escape XLT beeps after I have been driving a few seconds. It 's not the seatbelt alert but a series of 4 or 5 beeps about 4 times with no related warning lights. What is causing this?

The error code inidicates one of two things. It is either a burned out SRS light or there is a problem with the SRS system that is being detected durng the initialization process. When there is an error, the chime will sound 5 times, pause and repeat. It will do this about five times and stop. If the engine is left running for 30 minutes, the sequence will repeat.

you can disable the seat belt chime by connecting and disconnecting the driver's seatbelt 20 times in 30 seconds with the key turned to on (not running). I've found that it's more important to make sure the seatbelt fully connects and disconnects than worry about the 30 seconds.
