i have a 1998 gran am se quad, great engines!im starting to have the same problem, when i depress the gas pedal it stumbles and then all of sudden it takes off.i have replaced the tps(throttle position sensor)but to no aval.unless your engine light is on the tps is ok.now im replacing the spark plugs, air filter, and dumping a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas.if this fails,im gonna have to check fuel filters on my gran am its easy to get to the filter its on the back axle on the passenger side.and then maybe fuel pressure test.
check the air intake
I just had this problem recently. Sounds like you have a vacuum problem around the canister. Look at your canister, should be on the right side of your radiator support. Make sure that 2 vacuum lines are attached and not leaking. The middle one says to air cleaner. Check that one also. I replaced all 3 of mine lines at the canister and it took care of the same problem.
A Ford Ranger may die going uphill due to ignition problems. There could also be a problem with the fuel injection or fuel pump.
ok i have a '91 miata and cannot figure out why it is hesitating when i push the gas... it seems to do it all/mostly when i am going uphill. i have tried changing the throttle both up and down some, i read on another question about the tps? what is this? i think it has something to do with the fuel but i don't know what. i have a turbo and intercooler... don't know if this will help. are there any tune ups i can do that might help with this problem? AND btw i recently had to change the water pump and the timing had to come off. when i put the timing back on it might be off one or two teeth but idk!! PLEASE HELP
