cheek timing (crank and cam shafts),remove valvecover and cheek valvetran(bent valves and/or stuck valves). what cyl.s don't have comp? cheek for blown head gasket.
hope this helps mike mc
yes, if the timing belt breaks the pistons can hit the valves causeing the valves to bend, or causeing a hole in the piston(s) eather way the engine would need to be completely rebuilt. the same damage could be caused by trying to start the engine without the timing belt intact,
If it's a V6 it could have a broken timing belt.
Could be a burned valve (do a compression test of all cylinders) Could be a timing problem (check the timing)
Weak tensioner?
Timing belt could be bad and could have jumped a tooth or you need a toon up.
Highly doubtful, the engine has a timing chain and the ignition relies on a crank sensor for timing. But if the chain did jump you could probably tell by doing a compression test.
No the engine isn't ruined. It just wont run because ist is now out of time. The timing belts job is to keep the pistons and compression in line with the firing order of the spark plugs. when the the timing belt is on the car the plug fires when the piston is in the highest position in the cylinder. If the belt is broke then the plug could be firing when the piston is in the lowest position therefore not creating any compression and not allowing the car to crank. You're ok you just need a new belt and put back in time.
If you have fuel and spark, then it would have to be a timing or compression problem. I could be ingnition timing or camshaft timing. Check to see if the timing belt has slipped or is broken. Pull the spark plus and check engine compression. A service manual should be available for this vehicle at any auto parts store for around $20.00. Good luck.
It will stop running. It could do major damage to the valve/piston or you could get lucky and it will just need the belt replaced.
Assuming the timing belt let go, you could do a compression test.
In a 2002 Escort ZX, the fuel pump has a check valve built into it. If the fuel pressure is dropping, then it is a bad pump. You would need to replace the entire pump. It could also be low compression.
No spark, No compression, no fuel or timing off. Any or all of these could be an issue and then multipul reasons for each of them.
