Hi, I have had the same problem with a 1997 GMC Savana V8 5.7L twice, fuel pump had to be replaced.
It did run perfectly at idle but would not pick up speed, found a electrical issue with the fuel pump.
the engine runs at a faster rate than when the idle speed is lower.
jerking speed 40 50
I have 200,+ miles on the car. I change the plugs and wires yet it runs rough at idle and runs smooth at crusing speed. What can i do?
The ECU controls the idle speed and its programmed electronically. You need OBDII reader and computer to access the ECU parameters however I guess idle speed may be hard programmed and not changeable. If your car runs too fast or too slow at idle then there is a problem elsewhere that you need to sort out?
yes it runs off vaccum from the engine, it only works when the car is at cruising speed, not at idle or flat foot.
The idle speed motor controls the speed of the throttle body, There is an adjustment in the metal screew that the motor runs in and out of its housing.
Idling is what your car is doing when it is just sitting somewhere running. As soon as you press on the gas it is no longer idling. Your idle speed is the number of RPMs your engine runs at when you are idling.
That could be possible be caused by the Idle Air Control or the Throttle Position sensor.
you may need a new speed idle control value or your engine has a problem. you may need a new speed idle control value or your engine has a problem.
Possibly a stuck or sticking EGR valve.
i have same problem on my frecia it runs slow till 7rpm after 7rpm it runs like a dragon
the 84 uses an idle air control valve to control idle speed. this is a function done by the computer. if the idle is too low when cold but runs ok when hot, or ok when cold but then too high when hot, then chances are your idle air control valve is bad. if the idle is high all the time, you probably have your pcv valve vacuum line disconnected. if your brakes seem very hard to push as well, then it's probably your brake booster vacuum line. if neither of those, look for other vacuum hoses that may be disconnected. there is no user adjustable idle speed control for that car.
