if she's being distant with everyone, then you should try to find out if somethings going on at home... did they recently go through a breakup? are her parents fighting? do you think they might be stressed out because of too much school work? if they're being distant to just you then give them a little space, maybe they want to back up a bit. Are you they same gender? a lot of times the opposite gender can start falling for each other, in which case they might want to figure out if you like them back, and if they should pursue a relationship. if thats not it confront them, ask them if they're okay, tell them how you feel and hopefully they'll talk. if all else fails talk to mutual friends maybe they'll have a explanation or they'll help you confront them.

It depends what you're trying to return to her. If it is something replacable she probably has already replaced it if she is distant at this point. Unless of course your trying to rebuild some kind of relationship then you should just call her instead of worrying about being weird.

It is rude on the other friend's part to criticize someone that you consider to be your friend, especially if they don't really know the relationship you and your friend have anyways. They should respect who you consider to be your friends, unless they find a very valid reason to be worried. But to just call your friend 'weird' sounds like a more insecure and social status issue, which is not valid at all.
