My betta fish acts funny every time i change the water. he becomes lathargic and swims very jerkishly. after a few days he's okay but a couple hours after changing the water he become ill. suggestions?

Firstly, you need to be changing only part of the water at a time. Try changing a quarter at a time, so 3/4 of the old water is still in the bowl. You should be using a water ager, because things like chlorine and ammonia in the water supply could be hurting him until they evaporate out.
