Could be a bomb but cant be sure without looking at it
Whats wrong when an 86 ford aerostar keeps trying to start after the engine is running?
"Engine temp is low 140 degrees" Bad Thermostat (stuck open) "a ticking noise is coming from the upper part of the engine" Lifters Make a ticking noise, To stop that there are these bags that fill with oil. If you run low on oil the bags don't inflate at you get a clicking. Check you oil level!!! The bags could be bad, the oil supply could be clogged, or something else could be wrong.
The engine will not start. Need a scaner to scan engine, to see whats wrong.
Engine sludge is what the dealer told me Engine sludge is what the dealer told me
The ticking noises is the lifters slamming into the valves. They are not receiving the amount of oil they require to lubricate properly. Either the oil level is very low or something else is seriously wrong. Continuing to run the engine like this will lead to very early engine failure.
if your truck was out of oil and you ran it it probably threw a rod. it makes a fast ticking sound and it comes from under the valve cover. that is most likely what happened
Auto Zone will check your engine light for FREE. They will also tell you whats wrong.
Seized engine?
Completely normal. Chances are it only ticks when hot water is running, that is because it needs to work to keep heating the water.
its broken
Ignore the previous answer. Whoever posted that is WRONG. The 5.4 (As you obviously know) , is a GAS engine. A ticking noise in a 5.4 could be a number of things. Cracked exhaust manifold, Bad EGR Valve, a bad lash adjuster, or it's getting ready to blow a spark plug.
Might be your starter Question: How do you know the battery is in good condition? That clicking sound is the starter not having enough amps to turn the starter motor. Check the terminal for corrosion or a loose power wire to the starter solenoid. Also the wires to the starter relay. Take the battery to a auto parts store to be tested.
