Worms and parasites are usually the number one reason. I would take a fresh sample of your dog's stool to your vet for a fecal flotation test. They will be able to tell quickly and easily if there is an infestation. It can usually be treated with a round of an oral medication. It can be very serious, and you should definitely talk to your vet ASAP. If they see it is not worms or parasites, you will need to take your dog in for a check up right away, as there are lots of other problems/illnesses that rapid weight loss can be a symptom off. One of the most common would by hyperthyroid.

∙ 15y agoIt is normal you need to give much more food than normal. The process of giving birth and feeding puppies is very draining and uses lots of calories.You can buy special food for nursing bitches.

∙ 12y agoYou need to take your dog in to see your Veterinarian for a good check up to determine that answer. Be sure you dog has been dewormed on a regular basis, if not, bring in a stool sample when you see the Vet. Also be sure to feed your dog a good name brand of dog food, not some cheap generic version.
