There are a number of schools of thought. The first is the God created the earth and all creatures on it in 6 days He then rested on the 7th. This would mean we are all descended from Adam and Eve.
Scientists believe that life on Earth started from the creation of one single cell. This developed over millions of years developing and mutating to the environment around it until there were a vast range of air breathing species. From here we see the development of mammals to a point we have today.
Some believe that the story of Adam and Eve was written to provide civilisations of long ago with a very,very simple explaination of how life on Earth started.

Before the Earth evolved where did humans exist?
Before the Earth existed, humans did not exist. This is something both science and Christian, Jewish, and Muslim religions agree on. In the Old Testament, God created the Earth before he created man. In Science, the Earth was created, and in some unknown occurrence, archaebacteria were formed which evolved over billions of years to be what you and I are today. So basically, before the Earth, humans did not exist. Of course, it's without saying, no one knows if human beings existed before the Earth evolved. We just don't have an answer. At least, a factual answer. I guess it would be safe to say there could be two answers: no, humans did not exist before there was a planet Earth and yes, they did exist before there was a planet Earth. But an argument can be given we did exist before the Earth evolved. It is a fact something cannot come nothing. Meaning, if we exist as a species today, it is a fact we came from some thing, and that thing came from some thing and so forth backward in time to some thing. Even going as far as to say parallel universes and dimensions could come into play. In addition, I think a seed, a genesis, if you will, of ourselves, has always been, like Time. Time, for example, has always been, is, and always will be. And like Time, we have always been, is, and always will be. So to make it more understandable: humans as we are today are always a possibility. Every species on the Earth has the possibility to evolve into humans. It might take billions or millions of years to do so. That is, of course, when we do destroy ourselves, then the process starts all over again for the creation of the perfect creature. What is the perfect creature? OK, take the mind of Einstein, the beauty of Nefertiti, the strength of Hercules, and perhaps some more thrown in for good measure, and you have a race of creatures that will blow your mind. Therefore, we are perpetual.
