My husband wants to go out for our anniversary next Tuesday but we don't have the money any ideas on what we can do to make it special for him?

Your husband may be thinking that going out for your anniversary is what will make it special, but sometimes the most special, romantic anniversaries are the ones spent at home. If you have children, arrange for them to spend the night with grandparents, other family members, or friends so you and he can be alone.

You can prepare a dinner that you know he will like, with a special dessert, and a bottle of inexpensive champagne or wine would be a nice touch (they don't have to be expensive to taste good). You and he can even dress up, instead of wearing your regular 'around the house' clothes if you want to make the atmosphere special. Have some nice music playing, especially music that was popular the year you were married. And if you have one, watch the video of your wedding together, reminiscing about that special day and night. Or you can look through your wedding photos together. Sharing special memories with a loved one can be very romantic and intimate, and it's often easier to do it in the quiet and privacy of your own home than in a public restaurant or other place.

Have some candles burning, a vase of flowers on the table (you can purchase them for very little at grocery stores), and a beautiful, romantic card for him, telling him how much you love him, and all the things you love about him. You can even print the card from an online greeting card website so the card will be personalized just for him. And he can do the same for you - receiving a personalized card from someone, with words written just for you is such a special thing that it's a gift in itself. There would be no need to spend money on gifts for each other if you can't really afford to. So if he asks what kind of gift you want, tell him a card in which he writes what he loves about you. Just be sure you or he puts the date on the cards, because cards like that are precious gifts, and will be definite 'keepers'.

Once he sees the effort you put into making it a special, romantic evening, he will know you did it with love, which will mean so much more to him than going out would. Just don't tell him you want(ed) to spend the evening at home because you knew you couldn't afford to go out. Since some men are sensitive to things like that, it could possibly ruin the mood for him by making him feel like a failure as a provider. Just simply tell him that the evening will be much more special for you if you can have him all to yourself in the privacy of your own home. Then make the magic happen . . .
