i had a similar problem on a Ford, all i done was to clean the contacts on the light cluster with some emery paper and seemed to solve the problem.
The brake indicator light is for the EMERGENCY break, release this break.
You have a bad ground on that brake light bulb.
your brake fluid might be low.
The brake light on most vehicles is not only an indicator that the parking brake is on, but that there is a problem with the system.
probably the parking brake indicator

usually the parking brake sensor is malfunctioning [or the fluid is low check this first]
vss sensor
This issue could mean that the fuse on the indicator light is blown. This could also mean that the brake fluid is low on the vehicle.
Yes , the " BRAKE " light in your dash lights up if the emergency / parking brake is on or if the brake fluid level is LOW in the brake master cylinder in the engine compartment
