My son took the ged class and recieved a failing grade what doe he do next?

Depending on where you're son has taken the class he will have to wait for a specified amount of time before retaking the class. In some cases he can retake the class without the wait. It just depends on what the requirements are for the GED course that he is taking.

No. When you fail a grade that means you didn't learn what you needed so that also means you can't go on to the next. The only time in my 28 years of teaching I recommended a student move to the next grade was a boy who had repeated 3rd grade 3 times and was going to be 13 before he got out of my 5th grade. I suggested he move to 6th for the last half of the year, then to 7th at the start of the next year and finally to 8th. The parents didn't do this and by the time he was in 8th he had been expelled from the school. ONCE AGAIN someone who doesn't quite know what he's talking about in your situation. I JUST SKIPPED 10th grade after failing 9th, and I'm in 11th grade now.
