If the turn signal switch will not lock into the detent position on one side or the other, then the detent is broken. You will have to replace the switch, not an easy task. The backup light switch is related to gear selector position, and is probably located in the steering column as well. I don't know if this is related to the turn signal switch, but it does not sound like it.

The whole turn signal arm unit needs to be replaced
Does the turn signal also blink? If so, you have two wires touching. What happens when you put the vehicle in reverse and the backup light is supposed to come on? If the turn signal lights up and the backup light doesn't, you have the bulbs in the wrong socket.
Signal to driver’s behind
It is located under the dash on the drivers side, mounted on the passenger side of the steering wheel. There are 2 flashers there. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights.
unplug your driversside assy and plug into your passenger side if that makes it work bad bulbs or bad taillight assy. try new bulbs first

Your vehicle has 2 flasher relays. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. The turn signal flasher is located on the drivers side under the dash, mounted on the passenger side of the steering column. The Hazard flasher is located on the drivers side, under dash, above kick panel, mounted in the bottom of the convince panel.
Stop signs
Try checking & replacing turn signal flasher, which is usually located underdash by your left knee if your sitting in the drivers seat. Good Luck...
