Greenland is the largest island in the world at 840,000 square miles (2,175,590 km2).
I'm not sure if this is the island you mean, but Greenland is northeast of Canada. Improved answer by webmasterpdx...... The Island is called Ellesmore Island and belongs to Canada. There is a dispute about one of the little islands between this island and Greenland called Hans island (obviously between Greenland and Canada). I'm not sure why because there is nothing there :-), and it's too darn cold to live. I think the population of Ellesmore island is something like 100 plus maybe up to 100 more of military origin.
If you are thinking of Greenland, it is still part of Denmark.
