When using host, you need to turn on the host PC in order to connect via the internet or to other PC that's connected on the network unlike usin the router, you can turn on whichever PC you want. When the host PC hangs or have some technical problems, it affects the whole network is affected unlike using a router, when one PC had a problem the network will not suffer from it and still works accordingly.
