The soil in Portugal is mostly rocky, sandy, arid and acidic. It is better suited to crops like olives, forests, and cork. In addition, the climate is dry so it is difficult to grow crops without irrigation.
First they have to get grans of water and rich soil to pact down first!!
With the use of irrigation
Soil and weather determines what is grown. The plains area are dry, windy, with little rain, but can get snow in the winter. Only a few crops can grow in conditions like that.

If the climate is really dry, the crops(fruit, flowers....) they won't grow very juicy and not that delicious. The plants will then be very dry because of the dry climate. If the climate is very moist, the crops will flood and not grow as fast because of the water flooding the plant and making it really wet and not able to grow.
