Quote from a Yamaha Virago Owner's manual:
"Make sure that the motorcycle is positioned straight up when checking the oil level. A slight tilt to the side can result in a false reading. "
I expect that to apply universally for all bikes, unless otherwise specified.
No dipstick, You have to use the clear glass window on the side of the motor, it is usually located on the lower right side near the foot peg. Oil should be near the center of the window WHEN BIKE IS UPRIGHT OFF THE KICKSTAND
You check it while it is standing straight up and the correct level is 1/2 the site glass. A little over half would be ok but no more then 3/4 and you don't want to have less then 1/2. Hope This Helps.
The image is magnified,virtual and upright
A test tube rack is used to stand glass test tubes upright in. Glass test tubes have round bottoms, so need a rack to keep them upright. Otherwise, they would fall over and spill their contents.
Diverging lenses always produce images that are upright. The images are virtually reduced and trapped within the lens which will act as a magnifying glass. .

I've had a katana and a gsxr750 and you always check the level while the bike is straight up.... when its on the kickstand you'll get an inaccurate reading since its tilted
the snake at the zoo is one of them. he accidently removed the glass that dudley was leaning on that made him fall into a snakes cage. the snake slithered away after telling harry "thanks" and harry replaced the glass that trapped dudly.
I can give you several sentences.Hold your glass upright or you will dribble your drink onto the table.I learned how to dribble a basketball.With his lips numb from the dentist, spit will dribble down his chin.
The risk with transporting it laying down is that the glass panel has a significantly higher chance of cracking than when in an upright position. Doesn't mean you can't take the risk yourself (which in reality is probably quite small) - I however, would be more inclined to pack it up in the original box for transportation (and keep it upright).
"Quak" is the name of a Belgian beer which is served in a glass approximately 7" tall and the same shape as a "yard of ale" glass. It is suspended from a wooden stand, which keeps it upright, as the glass has a rounded base.
