In and of itself, transexuality has no negative impact on anyone. It is only in the behavior of the people in the relationships and the acceptance, or lack thereof, that society shows them, that problems occur. Bad parenting is bad parenting. Negative relationships and their attending behavior are the problem, NOT whatever "ality" in question.

Problems that often occur are the same ones you see in non-transexual relationships: irresponsibility, unwillingness to compromise, selfishness/self-centeredness, situational blindness. All are the same for any parent. Part of parenting is a willingness to be open, to care about someone else as muchor more than you do for yourself, to admit mistakes. A lot of the time, transexuals have lived in pain for many years, and when they have the chance to fix it, they do so without working with those around them. The problem that most people don't see is that the transexuality is not the problem, but a complication.

A major sore spot for families dealing with transexuality is society's acceptance or lack thereof. Like any situation that is not in the average person's daily life, the idea of gender not matching physical sex makes no sense; 'you are what you are.' Note though, the same could be said of getting an education, starting a business, getting married, and any other number of cases where a person makes a major change in their life away from where they have been. In addition children see a need to "be the same as everyone else" at different stages of growth, {peer pressure} and like any other thing we don't like, they have to learn to just accept and walk on.

Gender related issues don't have to damage a family, they can make it more forgiving, more accepting, and can teach it that tolerance is not just a word. Damage is not inevitable, pain is. But change is painful. It's also part of being part of a family. If you are in a relationship and are blaming transexuality for the problems, take another look; if you look close enough it's the behavior of the people involved, not the transexuality.

Note: children without gender issues know very clearly what their sex and gender are, so having someone else around whose gender either doesn't or did not match their physical sex will not make them gender-confused alone. Can someone convince you with words that you are green? Even if they are green, will that make you green? Transexuality is not contagious, it's not bad, it's not anything besides a description for people and how they choose to act and choose to have their bodies changed.
