This is Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, Commander of the Royal Navy battle fleet that defeated Napoleon's Navy at the decisive Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805. His defeat of the French Navy effectively ended the threat of an invasion by the French Revolutionary army. Tragically however, Nelson was shot dead by a French Marine on 21st October, the last day of the battle- he was just 47 years old. He now lies buried in the crypt of St. Pauls.
