Elena's birthmother is named Isobel she is a vampire now and Elena's birth Father Johnathan Gilbert was her adopted father's brother. Elena is considered a doppleganger because Kathrine Pierce looks exactly like her. Kathrine Pierce is Elena's boyfriend Stefan's old love. Stefan is a vampire who loves Elena. Stefan has a older brother named Damon who is also in love with Elena. Elenan's 2 best friends are named Bonnie and Caroline. Bonnie is a witch with magic power who like Elena's brother Jeremy. Caroline is a vampire who was turned into a vampire right before she was about to die. Carolines mother is the sheriff of Mystic Falls. Also Caroline loves Matt. Matt is best friends with Elena they have known each other every since childhood. Matt had a sister named Vikky who got turned into a vampire at the begging of the show. Vikky died and Matt got very upset because that was his only sibling and he couldn't lean on his mom because she was a druggy and never came home to see her children. Matt also has another friend named Tyler Lookwood, Tyler has a family curse that runs through his blood. The lookwood family is one of the founding families of Mystic Falls. Tyler's father dies in a church were many vampire were placed in 1864 to burn and die. The curse that rus through Tylers bood is that if someone dies in his hand he will become a werewolf. The Warewolf is very uncommon now days. Warewolfs can bite Vampires and if that happenes it will be fatal. Tylers uncle comes to check on him and while he is visting Tyler he dissapers and dies. Damon and Stefan kill him to get answers on werewolfs and a mystery curse that will get the vampires out of vampirism. The curse was called the moonstone curse to break that curse you must first find the moonstone and if you find it a ceromony will be placed in a sacrifice will be held by the doppleganger which is Elena. Elena is the key to breaking the vampire curse for the curse to be complete you also need a witch (Bonnie) and a vampire I believe( Isobell,Stefan,Kathrine,Caroline or Matt) Matt gets turned in to a vampire by Caroline right before he is about to die because a witch stabbes him in the neck with a peice of broken glass.
