Not the entire bloodline. Good heavens! An entire clan could be hundreds of people with all the branches, quite a lot of people for one old man to control. No, the "paterfamilia" was the oldest male in a family. The family could be extended to encompass the children, grandchildren and sometimes nieces and nephews. He had the responsibility for the family and consequently was supposed to be able to dictate their actions and conduct.

The oldest male in a Roman family, known as the paterfamilias, had significant authority and control over the actions of the entire bloodline. He had the power to make decisions regarding the family's finances, property, and social matters. His authority extended to his wife, children, grandchildren, and even extended family members who lived under his roof.
