Yes. He stood up for Puritan churches being changed to resemble Catholic churches. Whereas Puritans believe that churches should be plain so visitors concentrate on God, not decorations. Catholics believe that churches should be heavily decorated to please God. Other evidence shows he was a hero because he made good decisions (depends on what you think) when he was a commander and SOME believe Cromwell led Parliament to victory. He also agreed with kings Charles I so that he could get England back to normal without a king. :) Hope it helps
cromwell is a different type of man to different people some people say that he is a hero and was trying to find a better way of governing and others say he is a villain who crushed anyone who disagreed with him there is no actuall answer wether cromwell is a hero or a villain
Oliver Cromwell is one of English history's most controversial and enigmatic figures.
A simpler version: (learnt in history class)
Oliver Cromwell was not a hero. He let the Jews practice their religion, but persecuted any Irish people who openly practiced their religion during his campaign in Ireland. He slaughtered thousands of innocent people at Kilkenny and Drogheda, women, children and even babies! He sold Irish people into slavery, off to the west indies. Oliver Cromwell was far from a hero.
Depends whom you ask. He organized a revolt to overthrow and kill the King, then set himself up as king (although he took the title, "Lord Protector," which he passed on to his son, just like a royal title). His dynasty was in turn overthrown by the late king's son.
If the British Monarchy is a good thing, then Cromwell was a very bad man; if it was time for a change, then he was a hero of the common man. Probably he was more like an ambitious individual caught up in the tides of history and he made the best (or the worst) of his situation.
To some he was a hero yet to others a villian.
Those who thought he was a hero were the very strict Puritans. They believed that he would go on to make Britain a more devout and Christian country. He also established trade with other countries and was willing to defend British merchants interests overseas. This again made him a hero to some. He ended some cruel sports such as Bear baiting.
Meanwhile though he clamped down on the religious activities of non-Puritans. The majority of MP's had not agreed with the execution of the King. He was also hypocritical as he himself closed Parliament (one of the reasons he had fought the King) . He also used the Army to commit some of the most horrendous crimes ever commited by the British Army in Ireland such as the Siege of Drogehda where he burnt several hundred Catholics inside a church. Even today Cromwell is held as a almost boogie man type figure in Ireland.
So like most historical questions of this nature it depends on your point of view.
A personal view: Any General who aspires to greatness does not massacre innocent women & children because of religious intolerance. (Or any other reason for that matter) This disbars Cromwell as a Hero in my view.
Both!
he wasn't he was a horrible person
The most famous Cromwell is Oliver Cromwell. He is famous for being responsible for the overthrow of the British monarchy and for turning England into a republican commonwealth. According to the philosopher David Hume Cromwell was a dictator, but according to many others he was a hero of liberty.
richard arkwright is seen as both villain and hero :

Most people had and still have mixed opinions on Oliver Cromwell. Some think he was a hero and some think he was a villain. It very much depends on their personal political and religious views.
Cromwell's supporters answer to his enemies calling him greedy was, "Cromwell gave a lot of his power to other Puritans and all Puritans wanted to end all wicked behaviour. So where is the greed in that?" Hope these helped this question was part of my history homework which was Oliver Cromwell- Hero or Villain? :)

He intimidated and physically prevented his opponents from voting against him, therefore it seemed (for a while) that he was popular.
Shadow isn't a Hero Or a Villain. He is Neutral
