Superscript 2Use ASCII code to achieve that, there's also a select character or select symbol function I do believe. It's a superscript 2 by the way. It looks like this: x you can copy and paste that if you'd like or you can hold alt, then press the numbers on the num-pad 0178, then releasing alt.

First write x2. Highlight the 2, Go to format->font and check the box next to "superscript". This can also be used if you want to get a subscript, shadow, emboss, etc...

There are two other shortcuts for this. You can type in the number 2 and then highlight it and press Ctrl - Shift - "+" (that's Ctrl, Shift and the Plus sign all at the same time). That will do exactly what was listed above.

Also, if you type that a lot, you can make it an Autocorrect feature. What I do is type ^2 and have word automatically superscript it for me. You can do this by typing a superscript 2 and highlighting it. Then go to Tools - Autocorrect and just type in ^2, or whatever other shortcut you want to use, into the "Replace" field and the "With" field should already be populated with what you highlighted and Word will from then on automatically change it for you.(updated 2012): Hold Shift and press 6 which will put the ^ sign.now write the number for example if i want x squared 2 (x powered 2) I write x^2 (put x,the symbol, and then 2).I hope you like my edit.but if you liked the other one,I wont delete it! :)

How do you write 4 squared?

You can write 4 squared by writing a 2 in superscript after the number 4. (42) If you can't use superscript because you're using a computer program that does not allow it writing 4^2 would be an acceptable substitute. In Microsoft word you can activate superscript by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Equals

How do you type squared on a keyboard?

If it's just a small square known as a Ballot box check box then hold down the Alt key and make sure the Number Lock is on. Then using your computer number pad (for the numbers) type in #9744. This may not work for all writing/publishing type programs. For example, it will wok for Microsoft Word but not when trying to print a square on a Wikianswers question/answer. Alternatively, when using a program such as Microsoft Word then click on the "Insert" heading in the toolbar, select shapes, select the square, and when you click on the page where you wish to put the shape, a square will be generated and you can adjust the size.
