i took my 93, 3.0 v6 and it had a belt.
Chain.
The v-6 has a timing belt. The 4 cylinder has a timing chain... the timing belt on the v-6 controls (clockwise from the crankcase) The crankshaft, the idler puller (tension), the left bank cam (1,3,5 plugs), an idler pulley, right bank cam (2, 4, 6), the water pump, back to crankshaft. The belt has a cover over it, in order to remove it, you must take out the alternator belt, power steering pump, fan, fan-clutch, and upper coolent line.
timing CHAIN
if a timing chain is bad it can make clanking sounds and by that stage your in trouble but they can stretch and get lose and then it will start making sounds to warn you hope this helps
