On a 2002 Chevrolet venture van what makes the message center light continue to say change oil soon?

Hi,
Most GM vehicles have an "Oil Life" monitor that tracks when the oil was changed, and when it gets down to a low number (based on the miles you have driven), it will display that message.
I believe you can reset that monitor by pressing the small button in the dash until the Oil indicator shows (where the odometer mileage normally is). Then press & hold that button for a few seconds until the number resets to 100. Of course you should only do this once the oil has been changed.

How do you reset the message center computer on an Chevrolet Venture Message indicates needs regular maintenance but after performing service you don't know how to clear this message?
Disconnecting the negative cable can sometimes reset the message center light, however there is a procedure for this. Depending on the year of your venture this will vary, so to be sure the reset worked, do the following. Key on, engine off, all doors closed... push the gas pedal all the way to the floor briefing in succession 2 times, then do it a third time but hold the pedal down on the third pump. Keep holding until the message center flashes your maintenance light. If there is no flashing, turn the key off, then back on, and repeat the above mentioned procedure, only this time push the pedal 3 times, then hold it on the 4th time. If still no blinking, repeat by tapping the pedal 4 times, then hold on the 5th. Finally, tap pedal 5 times, then on the 6th, hold it. GM could not decide which pedal counts to stick with for this procedure, so that's why my instructions seem repetitive. My wife's 02 Venture is 4 presses, then the 5th is held. Hope this helps, and no this will certainly not flood your engine since obviously it's fuel injected :) Just dissconnect the negative battery cable and reconnect it. If the light is still on after doing this, you still have a problem.
