The variety of birds and diets worldwide make this a difficult question to answer. In general, because birds have high metabolism, they eat almost constantly while they are awake. (They also poop all the time as a result). It is not uncommon for a small songbird to eat more than its own weight in a single day.
There is no set amount of food that all birds must eat in a single day. Bigger birds need more food than smaller birds.
