Make sure they are clean and do not contain any larva.

Store them in airtight containers, they will keep for over a year if they are really dry.

Use several small containers rather than a large one, in case some beans spoil. This will limit any damage to that one container only.

To make sure the beans do not contain too much moisture from the ambient air, finish-dry them in the oven a little below 100 °F / 38 °C for a couple of hours, then pack them while they are still warm.

Ideally all legumes and grains should be stored in a vacuum, which is not very practical for the home. The vacuum devices that are available use plastic bags or containers, which are not suitable for food, regardless of all certifications.

The best containers are glass jars, like the ones used for jam, with the same lids.

If you pack the beans warm, the lower air pressure when the beans cool down will keep them until you need them.

How long can you store uncooked pinto beans?

I have never seen pinto beans spoil in less than a period of about two hours however in my years of cooking you would have to leave them out of the refrigerator for several hours before they would began to spoil. Beans are a staple food in the South and they would have to stay out all night in some cases before spoilage would sat in however If I intended on selling the beans to the public I would follow the 2 HOUR RULE and just cook a fresh pot.

Store dried kidney beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place where they will keep for up to 12 months. Do beans rot?

In certain conditions, such as humid weather, dried beans may get tiny bugs in them, even in a sealed container. If you live in a humid climate, one way to avoid this is to store your dried beans in the refrigerator or freezer. Cooked beans will go bad in a week, more or less, depending on the conditions, even when stored in the refrigerator. You can tell they have gone bad by the terrible smell.

How do you select kidney beans?

Most grocery stores sell kidney beans either canned or dried. Dried beans often have the closest flavor to fresh. Canned beans are more convenient, but may contain additives or extra salt added to them to help preserve their color and flavor. For dried beans, make sure there’s no evidence of moisture or insect damage and that beans are whole and not cracked. If buying in bulk, make sure that the bins are covered and the store has a good product turnover rate to ensure maximum freshness.

Do pinto beans grow in a shell?

They grow in a pod. I grow Anasazi beans every year, a type of ancient pinto bean. They look just like a green bean . . . and I let the beans dry in the pod, keeping a close eye on them, since they will drop their beans from the pod after a while. I harvest them and finish drying them on sheets of newspaper or paper towels. Easy to grow, and much better than store bought . . . Especially if you keep it organic ! No chemical fertilizers, pesticides or weed sprays. Keep it natural, keep it healthy !

How much does one cup of black beans cost?

That depends if you are purchasing them dried or canned. Dried (in the bulk foods section of the grocery store), would probably be a few cents, canned would be more, but still under 1 dollar.
