The conversion should not have completely gotten rid of the iMovie project that you originally had. Look through your files to see if you still have the iMovie project that you converted to an iDVD project. If you completely converted it, then there's not much else you can do other than trying to see if you can revert it back to an iMovie project.

Once you open Imovie it should be right there just click on it. If not you might have deleted it. There is no way to get it back

Can you burn imovie to a DVD and play it in a windows laptop?
To share a movie created in iMovie: From the iMovie Share menu select iDVD. Your project will be passed to iDVD where you can select a theme for your menu etc. When you have set up your DVD select Burn DVD... from the file menu. Once the DVD is created it can be played anywhere that plays DVD - computers, TV/DVD Player etc. If it is only a short movie one of the other options from the iMovie Share menu will probably suffice. A small movie can be emailed, burnt to a disc and shared with other computers, or posted directly to a YouTube account. The iMovie software itself will not work on a Windows computer.

You can't send a MSWMM (Microsoft Windows Movie Maker) project to your friend or anyone for that matter. The project must be Published/Finished (exported) before you can view it in a media player, send it by email, upload, or burn it to CD/DVD. Once you have Published/Finished the WMM project, you can email it.
