The answer is a shadow. Shadows are always black, but take on the general shape of what they are made by. Shadows always touch the ground but follow what they are cast by. Shadows are made in the sun, so during a storm shadows disappear because it is dark all around. Shadows hurt nothing and cannot be hurt.
