The first thing a man says when he gets off his new Sportster is " I wish I'd 'a bought a glide." If it's money you're worried about go find you an old Shovelhead somewhere. Spend anywhere from 6000 to 8500 on it and a 20 dollar tune up kit and you got a good ride and a dependable machine that, if you want, you can keep til you die. You'll hear people say stuff about AMF and oil leaking and so forth but those are mostly posers and newbies themselves. Nothing wrong at all with a Shovelhead. I get more compliments on my '73 FLH than I do on my Road King.

Not familiar with Harleys specifically, but on other bikes I've owned, there is one 'on' key position, then after that, there's a different position which leaves the taillight on (for visibility while parking on a road, I assume).
