Yes, you have two choices. You can go the simplest route and phone the hospital as your father's sister to ask what his condition is. If you have done nothing to upset your father in the past (not accusing you, but perhaps something in your past has caused your father's family members to feel you may well upset him) then by law family members other than your own mother if she is still living cannot refuse you access to see your father so you may be able to go right to his room (you can ask what room he is in when you phone the central desk at the hospital) and visit him for a short time after visiting hours. The other choice is to seek legal advice on this matter. If you had a good relationship with your father then whether your father is not awake or is coherent he is the one that would probably like to see you. If you do see him then be upbeat (even if he is not awake) and tell him you love him. Do not over stay your welcome.
Flowers would be nice to send to your daughter's friend's father in hospital from your whole family or, your daughter could send the flowers (ordered by you, signed by your daughter and delivered to the hospital with the room number on it.)
