Gas tanks are designed so that when the filling station pump detects a full tank, and cuts-off automatically, there is still an air space at the top of the tank.
This is to allow for expansion of the fuel due to temperature changes.
Therefore do not trickle fill, or use any other technique, to get the maximum amount of fuel into tank. If you are successful in eliminating the air space you could create a leak. ie. Fill with cold fuel, then drive to a parking lot in full sunshine - the fuel will expand and force its way out through tank vent or some other place.
you fill gas in it
The tank is not venting properly.
The gas gauge sensor is most likely stuck. It is inside of the tank and over time it will get corroded.
gettin the gas in
Filler neck to the gas tank
the only problem with over filling a gas tank, is that the gas will run out onto the ground ,wasting your money, and maybe getting on you making ya stink like and old mechanics rag. other than overflowing , there is no way to over fill a gas tank nor can u do any damage
Fuel system cleaner should be added to your tank before filling up with gas.
Gas will bubble back when filling the tank if the gas is going in too fast. In most filler tubes for newer vehicles, there is a mechanism that prevents siphoning. If the gas gets trapped in this mechanism, it cannot handle the volume and it might spit some of it back.
Make sure the tank "vent" is not kinked or blocked.
Fill Spout. When filling your tank with gas, you will need to open your gas tank, unscrew and remove your gas cap, remove the nozzle from the pump and put it in the fill spout.
You add it after filling your tank. Just open n pour into where you usually fill the gas.
Drain the gas tank, there is a plug under the tank...unscrew and drain all of the fuel out. Screw the plug back in. Have the vehicle towed to the nearest gas station. Unscrew gas cap. Fill the gas tank with premium gas only. Keep filling after the the pump clicks....you want to make sure you get your moneys worth but dont let it over flow. Tighten gas cap until it clicks. Go inside the store and tell the clerk that you just found out how much gas your tank holds!
