There has never been an anarchist "country" per se, because nation-states are a product of and tool of capitalism. But in Spain in 1936-39 anarchists controlled half the country along with communists, marxists, democrats, and others. The center of anarchist support was in Barcelona.
Many argue that hunter-gatherer tribes that existed pre-agriculture were anarchist, and that many tribes today could be considered anarchists in that there is no coercive authority and primitive communism.
Another example is Ukraine around 1918, led by Makhno.
There hasn't been an anarchist country in the traditional sense, as anarchism advocates for the abolition of hierarchical systems, including the state. However, there have been historical examples of regions or movements that have implemented anarchist principles to varying degrees, such as the Free Territory in Ukraine during the Russian Revolution and the Revolutionary Catalonia in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. These were short-lived experiments that faced significant challenges and eventually succumbed to external pressures.
