The average person in the UK has braces for around 1 year depending on how bad your teeth are. If they are just slightly crooked or wonky then 9 months - 1 year maximum but, if they're really quite bad, you could be looking around 1.5 - 3 years.

It varies depending on your bite. I am having a retainer for a year ( started this may) then train tracks two years, then a retainer for a bit afterwards. But I think standard is two years. Good luck with your braces :) and if you are still in school then you can rejoice when you get time off to get braces fitted.

Orthodontic patients should fully understand all facets of wearing braces. First of all, the treatment is not paid for by health or dental insurances. The average length of orthodontic treatment is two years, so people need to consider if they are willing to commit to such a long term. Wearing braces can be uncomfortable and painful because of the extreme tension and pressure caused by the twisting and movement of the brackets and wiring. Additionally, the diet of orthodontic patients is limited because certain foods could damage the braces.
