The natives lived in all sorts of places. Such as the Northeast and the west-coast. this means that different kinds of animals lived in these places. Animal skins were most likely used on the west-coast because of the temperatures. In the Northeast, animal furs had a good chance of being used because of the cold winters and hot summers. Some furs like wolf fur isolates from the inside and outside, this makes furs valuable to the natives. Some furs they wore were probably rabbit fur because of the slickness and/or heavy furs like wolf or bear.
It affected the movement west by allowing a easy way to transport west to where people were looking for land, cash crops, and new starts. It was monumental in transporting multiple people for a low cost, and was a major factor in the movement west for many people.
People moved out west and started new colonies, and the colonies expanded, thus the growth of the US rose.
