Park the mower on level ground and (1) check the air pressure of the tires (use a gauge for correct readings) and inflate to correct psi. (2) with a ruler, measure the distance of the mower deck to the ground in an X pattern and adjust as necessary. (3) raise the mower and inspect the blades to ensure there is no damage (bent, etc.)

I think your mower deck lift assembly spring has fallen off. The spring came off because the deck lift adjustment screw must have been unscrewed to the point that the deck fell off. Cut and paste this address into your browser address bar. You will need to prop the deck up put the spring back on and screw the adjustment screw back together. Keep in mind the adjustment screw may have fallen off completely. http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=poulan_weed_eater&mn=PP12542J+Tractor&dn=0825730010
It cuts the grass if it's on, but if it's off, then it does nothing, you're just pushing it.
