It was likely related to the sea because shellfish was abundant and many archeological sites throughout the world have provideded evidence to that effect. Clams, Oysters and mussels were the first available fruits of the sea. It took a long time for man to switch from a scavenger to a fisherman and even longer to learn how to preserve the sea's abundance.
