I am already a year ahead in school, and my mom says that if I don't get above a 3.5 GPA(roughly half As and half Bs), She's going to force me to repeat 8th grade at a private school! Can she legally do this even if my teachers pass me? I really don't want to get separated from all of my friends, so I would really appreciate if somebody could answer this. I should mention I am also in advanced classes. I understand the material, but am a chronic procrastinator and a bad test-taker. Please help and thank you!
It is legal but school is unlikely to agree unless they are really hard up for tuition. In a public school it would never happen even if that's what parent wants unless grades are very bad. You should not be in advanced classes if you can't handle them, another alternative is they can always just switch you to regular if school thinks it is necessary and then your grades would go up with no more effort. You want better grades too I'm sure so why not discuss the problem at your school in a group and decide what's best. An advantage to being held back is you can still make friends but will have an extra year of driving in HS- I know people who felt the trade off was worth it.
If you are failing the 8th grade, you would either be required to attend summer school or repeat the 8th grade.
you can fail any grade and have to repeat it. I think if you get atleast four failing marks (50 and below/R), I think they make you repeat the whole grade.
you will most likely get another chance to retake it or have summer school or repeat the grade

try force and motion. its a 8th grade level standard
8th grade is year 9
If you failed your classes in most states you can repeat a grade. Sending you to the next grade unprepared is a disservice to you. Knowledge is like building a fence without one section the rest falls apart. I imagine you were warned that you could be held in 8th grade.
