All wood can make 1 pound of paper. It depends on if the wood it bad or good. If the wood has fungi and they make paper out of that you might get fungi on your feet if you use that paper, but luckly all the wood they use is fresh and clean.
Out of a ton of recycled fiber, you might get 1500 pounds of usable fiber at most; the rest is either not fiber (clay, carbonate, etc.) or the fibers are so short that they are useless and are removed during processing. In most cases you would probably get even less. SO, with 1500 of fiber you would displace as much as 4 times that much wood since only about half of the dry wood is fiber and half the wet wood is water, so wood is only about 1/4 fiber; that gives you about 6000 pounds of wood or 3 tons. Recycling paper in the end does not really reduce the amount of wood used for paper though because if you draw a box around the system with wood as the input and waste as the output, you get a little more accumulation in the box, but eventually all of the wood going in has to come out as waste since you can not reuse fiber forever, maybe you can recycle it a maximum of 7 times, then it goes out as waste.
A cord of wood measuring 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet-or 128 cubic feet-produces nearly 90,000 sheets of bond-quality paper or 2,700 copies of a 35-page newspaper.
