1. Make a new event for the key that is required for the door. Make sure there is a graphic so the player knows that the key can be picked up Leave the trigger at action button. Add a new event command that gives the player an item called "key". (You can make items in the database.) Now turn on a self switch at the end of that event's first page, then make a new event page. In this page, make sure the condition is that the previously turned on self switch is on. Do not set a graphic for this page. Now we have a key!
2. Now go into your door event. Make a conditional branch, and find "Player has item:". Make it so that it is required that the player has the key. Make sure there is an "Else" Branch. Now press okay. Continue the door eventing as usual under the first branch, and under the second (Else) branch, display a Show Text message with something like: "You need the key to open this door.

1. go to Pokecommunity.com 2. Go to "Game Development" 3. Find "Pokemon Essentials" This is a starter kit to make Pokemon games in RPG Maker XP
Creating one on your PC is as easy as purchasing RPG Maker or RPG Maker 2. Follow the instrustions then you have your own game.
It depends what sort of game you want to make. RPGMaker can make only RPGs but it's much easier than Game Maker.
