Fish could dissolve these pesticides in their fatty tissues (in a process called biological magnification, but that's for another time!) and we humans could eat them! With the same chemicals inside the fish! That's how important Rachel Carson's discovery was. You wouldn't want to find out that DDT was in the fish you ate last night, and you were going to be sick for the rest of the week, would you? ;)
