The Taliban is a radical muslim group that rose to power in afganistan in 1990.
The Taliban, a Muslim fundamentalist group, took control of Afghanistan's government in 1996 and ruled until the 2001 U.S.-led invasion drove it off from power.
A Radical Muslim group that rose to power in Afghanistan in the 1990s was the Taliban. This group says that they are Muslims, but in reality they are not. They are trying to establish a Muslim Caliphate by force, killing innocent civilians in the process. This goes against the principles of Islam, where killing is a major sin in the eyes of God (Allah).
NOT EXACTLY. The Islamic Revolution of 1979 in Iran put SHIITE Muslim Fundamentalists in power.
1) The Taliban, a radical regime which quickly seized power in Afghanistan following the end of the Soviet-Afghan War, and 2) the Northern Alliance which was supported by the US and controlled the northern part of Afghanistan.
al-qaeda
The Mujahadeen were pretty much anyone in Afghanistan who fought against the Soviet occupation. Many people assume they are the same as the Taliban - this is not true. The Taliban were formed after the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, with the intent of overthrowing the mujahadeen warlords who had come into power after the Soviets left.

The terrorist group Al-Qaeda has major links to the Taliban government who were in power in Afghanistan. However, Afghanistan is not the only country to be "invaded" as a result of the war on terror; Iraq was also liberated from Saddam Hussein. The main reason, is because the AlQaeda (a terrorist group) targeted our twin towers, and other high authority buildings, and so we retaliate. It wouldn't be centered around Afghanistan if the terrorist group weren't there.
When the Soviets left Afghanistan, no one "took over." The Communist government that they had intervened to support was still in power. This was attacked for the next three years by the Taliban until they took over. They left in 1989
How has power changed hands in Afghanistan since the 1990s?
