The terrorist group Al-Qaeda has major links to the Taliban government who were in power in Afghanistan. However, Afghanistan is not the only country to be "invaded" as a result of the war on terror; Iraq was also liberated from Saddam Hussein.

The main reason, is because the AlQaeda (a terrorist group) targeted our twin towers, and other high authority buildings, and so we retaliate. It wouldn't be centered around Afghanistan if the terrorist group weren't there.
