EGR valve will cause loss of power if stuck open. You might have rattling coming from your engine because the timing is off. This is dangerous. You are going to need someone who works on your type of car a lot check it out. A generic mechanic may not know what to do, because it requires in-depth knowledge of the engine and fuel/air system to diagnose timing issues properly.
