The Civil War showed for the first time many new elements of war. Many of which are present on even todays battlefields. Tactically speaking, we saw huge changes in battlefield tactics. Whereas before the civil war, we commonly saw lines of troops facing each other and firing (think Napolean), the Civil War showed the emergance of guerrilla tactics. Things like camoflauge ambushes, snipers and lightning raids became commonplace during the war. The generals involved in the war were truly thinking outside the box in an attempt to gain superiority over the other side. Technologically speaking, we saw the first true "battle ships" in the Monitor and the Merrimac. These ships were maneuverable (if incredibly slow) built solely with war in mind and for the first time, armored. We also saw in the civil war the first breech loaded cartridge firing rifles. Though they were not in widespread use, the pinfires and rimfires were used by special brigades, typically in "shock troop" form.

I would highly recommend the book "Lee's Generals" for a more in depth explanation to what I've mentioned.

Hope this helps.

AnswerThe Civil War was the first "Total War", which in an extremely simple explanation of a highly complicated term, means that each side will do whatever it can to win. It was the first war to use trenches (this surprised me too when I learned it). The above tells more. However I know there are more reasons, that I cannot recall right now. Answer1. Slavery

2. States' rights issues

3. Uncle Tom's Cabin (a book)

4. John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry

5. The election of Lincoln in 1860

6. South Firing on Fort Sumter

The main disagreement between the North and the South was about slavery, and various issues related to slavery such as, if a slave escapes from the South and travels to the North, is the North legally obligated to return that slave to the slave owner? There was, of course, also a serious disagreement on the question of whether a state has the legal right to secede from the union.

What are the Civil War rights?

The American Civil War was about the attempted secession of certain states from the Union; if any rights were established by that war, it is the right of the US to prohibit any state from seceding. Do not confuse this with the issue of civil rights. Civil rights are rights to which people are morally and legally entitled by reason of being citizens, not by reason of the civil war.

Why were threats of secession feared in the civil war?

Because the south seceded to form the union. That's the reason there was a civil war.

What made the American revolution a Civil War?

Nothing. A civil war is a war fought by 2 factions to gain control of 1 government. The colonists wanted their own country and government. This is also the reason the American Civil War is NOT a civil war.
