The UPC code or bar code has nothing to do with a best use-by or expiration. It is used solely to ID the manufacturer and the product.
CommentsBest usage dates are a joke. Open it and smell the contents. If not unpleasant, cook those beans. They really only start to slowly spoil when in contact with air.

The "best by" date does not mean it is spoiled after that date. What it means, is that the product is guaranteed to be at its best color, flavor, texture and nutrition. Beyond that date, deterioration will be obvious to the trained eye and palate, though it does not necessarily mean it is unwholesome.
If the can is in good condition and isn't swollen or leaking, the contents are likely still good to use. But the contents can deteriorate even when the can isn't opened.
