"Islam" means submission. It is similar to the Hebrew word "shalom" which means something like peace. Some say that "Islam" means peace. It is not used that way in Arabic. What does the religion of Islam believe about peace? What is the definition of peace to a Muslim? Peace with whom? You will hear different answers from different practitioners of Islam. Mostly they will talk about submission to God.
You will also hear different things from Christians. Peace in The Bible should be understood most often as peace with God - the opposite of anger or punishment. The operative word is GRACE, which is God giving to human beings something they do not deserve.
Can religion or submission to God bring peace with God? Many religions say yes - if you do these things God will not be angry with you. Christianity instead uses the image of God as Father. Just as any earthly father desires his children to do the right thing, so does God. But a good father does not seek to punish his children; rather, he chooses to embrace them and keep them in peace and safety in his arms.
