Open the back hatch and locate the hinge area that the hatch is attached to. Behind the hitch assembly, toward the tail light, you will see two small torque screws, size T-15. Unscrew both screws and the assembly will pop out. It takes a little force, but it will come out and you won't break it. Good Luck!

The engine and transmission are removed out the bottom as an assembly.

you have to remove the turn signal light and some of the trim (grill) to get to the screws that hold the light assembly in place. 10 minute job.
You should never need to remove the thermostat and leave it out.
